As 2015 draws to a close I can’t help but reflect on the year gone by. Special education is an ever changing, fast paced and challenging field. Working with children is tough, gratifying, stressful and joyful all at the same time! The burn out rate among special educators is extremely high. Personally, the highlight of the year was the chance to slow down.
Taking a break from my “job” allowed me to recharge and revive myself. The luxury of time opened my mind to new ideas and gave my long pending bucket list a chance to come alive. Just like the tortoise in the picture (Location-National Gallery of Modern Art, Bangalore) my pace of life was unhurried and steady the latter half of 2015. This mental space was conducive for exploring writing, designing this website and conducting workshops.
If there is one tip I can give to start 2016 it would be to develop a mindful attitude. Working on your wellbeing will allow you to serve your students and children from the overflow rather than a half-full or empty cup!
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and mindful 2016!
